Summary
- AIA Vitality is the health and wellbeing programme attached to AIA's life, trauma, income protection and health insurance.
- You pay $13.50 a month, get 10% off eligible premiums from day one, and earn points for things like an annual health check, tracked exercise and sleep. Points move you up four status levels, and each level changes both your rewards and, from year two, your premium discount.
- Overall, those who engage the most with AIA Vitality see the discount climb to as high as 20%. However, if you ignore it, the discount shrinks by two percentage points a year until it's gone, while the fee keeps being charged.

AIA Vitality in a Nutshell
- It costs $13.50 a month ($162 a year) per person, on top of your premiums.
- You get 10% off eligible AIA premiums from day one: From year two, the discount moves with your status at each policy anniversary: up two points a year at Platinum (to a 20% cap), unchanged at Gold, down one point at Silver, down two points at Bronze, to a floor of 0%.
- Rewards top out at $560 a year: $5 a week for hitting an activity target ($260) plus $25 to $125 for each status you reach ($300), taken as Airpoints or Everyday Rewards points.
- The HealthyFood Benefit is worth at most $15 a month ($180 a year): Up to 25% off the first $60 of fresh fruit and veg at Woolworths each month, in-store only, and 25% only after your annual AIA Vitality Health Check.
- Achieving Silver level is easy, but Platinum is not: A free health check and a few online assessments get you to Silver, whereas Platinum needs a wearable and near-daily activity all year.
- Our view in one line: Worth it if you'll do the health check and track your activity; a slow drain if you won't.

LifeDirect's AIA Vitality offer (runs until 31 December 2026)
LifeDirect, a MoneyHub partner, is paying for the first year of AIA Vitality for anyone who takes out new or increased AIA cover (for Life, Health or Income Protection) through it. Here is exactly what’s being offered:
This offer applies to every AIA policy type with no minimum premium, and existing AIA customers adding new or increased cover through LifeDirect qualify too. The points campaign runs through a limited number of insurance adviser groups, and LifeDirect is the only place we know of that offers the free points and free AIA Vitality membership together. Two important things to note:

What is AIA Vitality?
AIA Vitality launched in New Zealand in 2019 and can be added to eligible AIA life, trauma, income protection and health insurance policies. It runs through an app and has three parts:
Know This: Everything you do earns AIA Vitality points within a membership year. Bronze is 0 points, Silver 10,000, Gold 20,000 and Platinum 30,000, with a further reward tier at 35,000. Your status at each policy anniversary sets your premium discount for the year ahead, and your status during the membership year sets which rewards you unlock.
AIA also bundles a lighter membership, AIA Vitality Starter, with its online-only AIA Starter Plans. This review covers the full programme.
- Knowing your health (online assessments and an annual in-person health check)
- Improving your health (activity tracking, gym partners, nutrition, sleep and mental wellbeing content), and
- Being rewarded (a premium discount, weekly and status rewards, and partner discounts).

What does AIA Vitality cost, and what is the discount worth?
Fees and Discounts:
From the first policy anniversary, AIA's Premium Flex takes over.
- The fee is $13.50 a month including GST, $162 a year, per member. A couple who both want it can pay twice and earn rewards twice.
- The initial 10% discount applies to eligible AIA benefit premiums from the start of the policy. Whether it covers the fee depends entirely on how much you pay AIA.
- The break-even is about $135 a month in eligible premiums. Someone paying $250 a month of life, income protection and health cover gets $300 a year back before doing anything; someone on a $60 a month health-only policy gets $72 back for a $162 fee and needs the rewards to get ahead.
From the first policy anniversary, AIA's Premium Flex takes over.
Premium Flex: How your discount changes each year
Your status at each policy anniversary resets the discount for the year ahead. Use this table to understand what happens before you sign up.
| Status at policy anniversary | Points needed | What happens to your discount at that status | Year 2 discount if year 1 was 10% |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 0 | Your discount falls 2 percentage points a year, to a floor of 0% | 8% |
| Silver | 10,000 | Your discount falls 1 percentage point a year, to a floor of 0% | 9% |
| Gold | 20,000 | Your discount stays where it is | 10% |
| Platinum | 30,000 | Your discount rises 2 percentage points a year, to a cap of 20% | 12% |
Source: AIA Vitality brochure, June 2026 edition. From the initial 10%, reaching the 20% cap takes five consecutive years at Platinum. Staying at Bronze takes the discount to 0% in five years; staying at Silver takes ten.
Know This: Gold is the level where the discount stops shrinking, so it's the realistic target for most members. And a member who never opens the app pays $162 a year for a discount that goes from 10% to 0%.

What it takes to reach each status
Silver (10,000)
Gold (20,000)
Platinum (30,000)
35,000
Important: For every status, 6,000 of the health check's 10,000 points depend on your results being in the healthy range. Someone with high blood pressure or cholesterol starts from a lower base, which is a real weakness in a programme meant to help exactly those people.
- The health check plus the online assessments get most people there in a month with no exercise tracking at all.
- A check with all four measures taken and two in the healthy range is 7,000 points; add the age assessments (2,250), the non-smoker declaration (1,000), and a skin self-examination (500), and you're at 10,750.
Gold (20,000)
- Add a dental check, a flu jab, an eye check and the financial assessment (2,750), track your sleep most nights (up to 2,000), read some Groov content and meditate a little (about 1,500), and log around 3,000 activity points, which is 60 days of a 50-point walk.
- These are steady habits, not athletic ones.
Platinum (30,000)
- The activity cap is 15,000 points, which is 100 days at 150 points or 300 days at 50. In practice, that means wearing it and doing four or five workouts a week, all year, on top of everything above.
35,000
- All of the above plus the extras most people skip: Mission Nutrition (2,500), the fitness assessment (2,000) and a screening or vaccination.
- This level unlocks the top status reward.

The rewards, and what each is actually worth
Rewards come in points, cash and vouchers. We outline what you need to know about earning each of them.
Earning Active Rewards (weekly)
Earning Status Rewards
Each level you reach in a membership year pays once:
Know This: Combining Active Rewards and Status Rewards, the programme's ceiling is 560 Airpoints or 74,860 Everyday Rewards points, worth $560 either way.
The HealthyFood Benefit
Partner discounts
These are where the value can outrun the headline rewards, but only if you'd be buying the thing anyway.
Earning Active Rewards (weekly)
- Your target starts at 200 activity points a week and rises to a maximum of 500 as you hit it.
- Each week you reach it, you choose one $5 reward: 5 Airpoints, 670 Everyday Rewards points, a $5 HOYTS, Harvey Norman, or iTunes voucher, or the ability to donate to a charity.
- In total, you can earn up to $260 a year, and it requires a linked device or gym-partner visits; organised events don't count toward the weekly target.
Earning Status Rewards
Each level you reach in a membership year pays once:
- Silver: 25 Airpoints or 3,340 Everyday Rewards points ($25)
- Gold: 50 Airpoints or 6,670 Everyday Rewards points ($50)
- Platinum: 100 Airpoints or 13,340 Everyday Rewards points ($100)
- 35,000 points: 125 Airpoints or 16,670 Everyday Rewards points ($125). Reach all four, and it's $300.
Know This: Combining Active Rewards and Status Rewards, the programme's ceiling is 560 Airpoints or 74,860 Everyday Rewards points, worth $560 either way.
The HealthyFood Benefit
- This one is widely misunderstood - the discount applies to the first $60 (including GST) you spend on eligible fresh fruit and vegetables at Woolworths each calendar month, in-store, with your linked Everyday Rewards card scanned at the checkout.
- The discount is 10% until you complete your annual AIA Vitality Health Check and 25% after, so the maximum saving is $6 or $15 a month, $72 or $180 a year, per member.
- You activate it in the app each month; it resets on the first, and unused savings don't carry over.
Partner discounts
These are where the value can outrun the headline rewards, but only if you'd be buying the thing anyway.

|---|---|---|
| AIA insurance premium discount | 10% off eligible AIA premiums from day one | Reset at each policy anniversary by status (see Premium Flex) |

| Status Rewards | Silver 25 Airpoints or 3,340 Everyday Rewards points ($25); Gold 50 or 6,670 ($50); Platinum 100 or 13,340 ($100); 35,000 points 125 or 16,670 ($125) | Paid once per level per membership year; up to $300 a year |
| HealthyFood Benefit | 10% off the first $60 (incl GST) of eligible fresh fruit and veg at Woolworths each month; 25% after your annual AIA Vitality Health Check | In store only, linked Everyday Rewards card, activate monthly; max $6 or $15 a month, no carry-over |
| Free health check | One AIA Vitality Health Check per membership year | Participating Unichem and Life pharmacies, or your GP |

| Devices and gear | Garmin up to 25% off, Samsung up to 30% off, New Balance 25% off | Selected items, bought through the app |
| Movies | HOYTS vouchers up to 50% off; Event Cinemas tickets $14 | Six tickets a month at each |

Is AIA Vitality worth it? Our calculations for three kinds of members
For any individual, the answer depends on how much you participate in earning points, and how many benefits you use. To help explain the options, we outline the programme for three kinds of everyday members, assuming $150 a month of eligible AIA premiums. All figures are net of AIA Vitality’s $162 annual fee.
| The member | Year one | Year three | Where it settles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joins and does nothing (stays Bronze) | +$18 | -$54 | -$162 a year from year six, when the discount reaches 0% |
| Does the basics: Silver in year one, Gold from year two, hits the weekly target about half the weeks and claims HealthyFood about half the months | +$263 | +$270 | About +$270 a year, with the discount holding at 9% |
| All in: 35,000 points every year, weekly target every week, HealthyFood at 25% every month | +$758 | +$830 | +$938 a year from year six at the 20% cap, before gym and device discounts |
Important
Overall, our view is simple:
- Our table assumes $150 a month ($1,800 a year) of eligible AIA premiums and the $162 annual fee.
- Rewards at face value in Airpoints or Everyday Rewards points; partner discounts (such as gym fee reductions) excluded.
Overall, our view is simple:
- The AIA Vitality fee is only a problem for people who do nothing, and for them it's real: they pay more every year for less.
- The basic member's return comes mostly from the discount for holding at Gold and the weekly $5s; HealthyFood and status rewards offer added value.
- And the all-in member's number is large but earned: Achieving this status means you need a wearable, near-daily activity and every check and assessment, and the 20% cap takes five years at Platinum to reach.
- The other variable is your premium - every extra $100 a month of eligible AIA cover adds $120 a year at the 10% discount and $240 at 20%, which is why AIA Vitality is likely to be a better deal for someone holding life, trauma, income protection and health insurance policies with AIA than for someone with a small health-only policy.

AIA Vitality Pros and Cons
Pros
Cons
- A real discount from day one: 10% off eligible premiums, rising to 20% if you stay at Platinum.
- Silver is easy: A free health check and a few online assessments, no exercise tracking needed.
- The rewards are cash-equivalent: Up to $560 a year in Airpoints or Everyday Rewards points, not vouchers you'll never use.
- A free clinical check-up every year: BMI, blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol measured and tracked over time.
- Strong partner discounts if you'd buy anyway: Up to half off Les Mills, six weeks free at Snap Fitness, up to 25% off Garmin and 30% off Samsung devices, half-price movie vouchers.
- Per member: Couples each enrolled in AIA Vitality earn two sets of rewards and two HealthyFood caps.
Cons
- $162 a year regardless of use.
- The discount decays for the disengaged: 10% becomes 0% in five years at Bronze.
- Platinum is hard: A wearable and near-daily activity for a full year. Most members will settle at Silver or Gold.
- Health check points depend on your results, so the people with the most to gain start lower.
- HealthyFood is smaller than it sounds: $6 or $15 a month, Woolworths in-store only, monthly activation, no carry-over.
- Rewards reset each membership year: Unused points and status don't roll over.
- Your health and activity data sits with AIA Vitality and its partners, though AIA keeps it separate from underwriting and claims.
- It ties you to AIA: The value is only real if AIA's cover was the right choice anyway - it may not be, and our life, trauma, income protection and health insurance comparison guides are helpful starting points.
Our Conclusion
AIA Vitality is a good deal for the engaged, roughly break-even for the mildly interested (once premiums pass $135 a month), and a drain for everyone else. Our research suggests the best test is the first 60 days:
Warning: don't switch cover for the perks
Important: AIA Vitality and the cover it attaches to
- Book the free health check, do the online assessments, link a device and see whether you keep it up.
- If you're Silver at the first anniversary, you may want to keep it and aim for Gold, where the discount stops shrinking.
- If you're still Bronze, you may want to cancel before the discount erodes.
- Never pick an insurer for its rewards programme. Pick the cover first; if that's AIA, AIA Vitality is a good add-on for the people who'll use it.
Warning: don't switch cover for the perks
- Replacing an existing life, trauma, income protection or health insurance policy means new underwriting, which can bring new exclusions for pre-existing conditions, new stand-down periods and a premium set at your current age and health.
- AIA's own points campaign excludes replacement policies without an increase in cover for a reason.
- Compare the total cost and quality of cover across insurers first, using our life insurance, health insurance and income protection guides; add AIA Vitality only if AIA wins on the cover.
Important: AIA Vitality and the cover it attaches to
- AIA Vitality attaches to AIA Living (life, trauma, total and permanent disability, income protection and related benefits), AIA Private Health and AIA Private Health Plus, AIA Start-Up Income Protection and Cover for Life.
- The discount applies to the eligible benefits on the policy, so the more of your cover sits with AIA, the more the programme is worth.
- AIA also runs two other discounts that stack with it: The Multi-Benefit Discount takes 10% off when you hold life cover plus one optional category, 12.5% with two and 15% with three.
- The Lifestyle Booster Discount takes up to 7% off new AIA Living life or family protection cover for the life of the cover if your BMI is between 18.5 and 26.99, you've been a non-smoker for 12 months, and you're 16 or over.
- AIA advertises the three together as up to 32% off, but that figure is life-cover stacking; a health-only policy gets the 10% AIA Vitality discount and nothing else.

Alternatives to AIA Vitality
No other New Zealand insurer ties your ongoing premium to a wellness programme in this way. The nearest comparisons are Southern Cross's Healthy Lifestyle Reward, a flat 10% off health insurance premiums for up to two years if you meet its criteria when you join, and its Low Claims Discount of 5% or 10% for a year after two low-claiming years, plus the multi-policy and non-smoker discounts most life insurers offer.
However, none of them asks anything of you after day one, which means there’s no effort, but also no upside either.
The rewards themselves are not unique. Everyday Rewards is free to join, Airpoints can be earned on credit cards, and gym chains run their own promotions. So the decision isn't AIA Vitality versus another programme; it's AIA's premium, net of the AIA Vitality discount and fee, versus quotes from other insurers for the same cover.
Our life, trauma, income protection and health insurance guides cover that comparison. AIA Vitality is a tiebreaker, not a reason.

Know This: Your Data
- Your AIA Vitality information is kept separate from underwriting and claims: The health and medical information you provide through the programme (assessments, health check results, activity and sleep data) is walled off from the AIA teams that assess new cover and claims, and AIA's terms say it won't be treated as known for those purposes. A high blood pressure reading at your pharmacy check does not feed into your policy.
- It is shared with the people who deliver the programme: AIA passes what's needed to its partners (the pharmacy doing your health check, your gym, the rewards administrators) and can tell your adviser or the company that sold you the policy things like your points, status and which benefits you've used. Linking your Everyday Rewards account shares your linking details with Everyday Rewards. None of it is used for marketing without your consent.
- The one gap to know about: If a health professional records an AIA Vitality activity in your own medical notes (a pharmacist, GP or dentist), those notes can reach AIA later if you authorise a medical records release, for example when applying for more cover or making a claim. And your duty of disclosure still applies: if the programme tells you something about your health, you must disclose it the next time you apply for or change cover. AIA's privacy statement has the details.
Frequently asked questions
How much does AIA Vitality cost?
$13.50 a month including GST ($162 a year) per member, on top of your premiums. Couples pay twice and earn twice.
Can I add AIA Vitality to an existing AIA policy?
Yes, at any time, as long as the policy has eligible cover. The 10% discount applies from when you add it and then moves with Premium Flex from your next policy anniversary.
Do I need a fitness tracker?
Not for Silver. For Gold, Platinum and the weekly Active Rewards, you'll want one: Garmin, Samsung Health, Fitbit, Google Fit, Apple Health and Strava all link, and gym-partner visits count too.
What is the AIA Vitality Health Check?
A check of your BMI, blood pressure, random blood glucose, and cholesterol takes about 30 minutes and is free once a year with membership at participating Unichem and Life pharmacies or through your GP. It's worth up to 10,000 points and unlocks the 25% HealthyFood rate.
What happens if I stop using it?
The fee keeps coming and the discount drops at each policy anniversary (two points a year at Bronze, one at Silver) until it reaches 0%. If you've stopped, you may want to cancel the membership; the discount goes with it, but so does the fee.
Does the 10% apply to all my premiums?
It applies to the premiums for eligible AIA benefits on the policy. Ask for the discount to be shown on your quote so you can see exactly what it covers.
What's better: Airpoints or Everyday Rewards points?
Same value: $25 is 25 Airpoints or 3,340 Everyday Rewards points. Pick whichever you'll actually spend. You can only spend Everyday Rewards points through the Everyday Rewards programme; Airpoints have wider uses.
Can my partner join too?
Yes. Each insured adult adds their own membership, pays their own fee and earns their own rewards, including their own HealthyFood cap.
What is AIA Vitality Starter?
A lighter membership bundled with AIA's online Starter Plans, with fewer rewards. This review covers the full programme.
Can I get AIA Vitality without an AIA policy?
No. It's an add-on to eligible AIA cover, so the first question is whether AIA's cover is right for you.
Does AIA use my AIA Vitality data for underwriting or claims?
No. AIA's terms keep the health and medical information you provide through AIA Vitality separate from its underwriting and claims teams. The exception is anything a health professional records in your own medical notes during an AIA Vitality activity, which can reach AIA later if you authorise a records release, and your duty of disclosure still applies when you apply for or change cover.
