How much does glazing cost in Wellington?

  • The answer is ‘it depends’. In Wellington, our research estimated that glass and glazing could cost anywhere from around $40 to $50 per square metre, right up to $300 or $400 per square metre, depending on the type of glass.

If you’re looking for double glazing or laminated glass, you’ll pay at least $200 and $300 per square metre respectively. If your project requires double glazing or laminated glass, costs per square metre vary among glaziers, so it’s worthwhile getting quotes.
  • Glaziers charge on a ‘labour plus materials’ basis, and you’ll pay between $50 and $80 per hour + GST for labour. There is usually a minimum callout fee which is typically one hour. Like most trade services, after-hours callouts will cost more.
  • Several other factors affect glazing costs. In Wellington, a significant consideration is framing. Understandably, old villas are more difficult to re-glaze than modern aluminium windows. This is because it takes longer to access the frames.

While the work can be disruptive to your home life, the cost (if measured by square meter) will be significantly cheaper.​
