Our review:
This guide details the three plans pros, and cons, compare the plans side-by-side and outline those most suitable for Voyager for broadband. We cover:
- Voyager in a Nutshell: Voyager is a leading telecommunication provider in New Zealand, that aside from offering home broadband and home line services, also focuses on providing web hosting and other business-oriented services.
- Coverage: Voyager broadband services are not available in all areas. To find out what type of service is available in your area, visit their website and enter your address.
- Plans and Pricing: Voyager offers three plans, the Unlimited ADSL/VDSL Broadband Plan (from $79/month), the Unlimited Fibre Broadband Plan (from $79/month), and the Unlimited FibreMax Broadband Plan.
How to get the best price on a Voyager broadband plan:
- New Customers: Plans with Voyager are cheapest when you bring your own modem, sign up for 12-months and don’t plan to change providers for at least 12 months (therefore avoiding the early exit fee).
- Renewing: If you're happy with Voyager and would like to continue, the best approach is to compare the pricing when your contract comes up for renewal. If Voyager offers a better deal than the renewal rate, contact their support team and ask for them to apply it to your account.

Voyager Broadband Set Up and Installation Charges
Know this first: When comparing broadband providers, service setup charges are an essential part of the deal. In the case of Voyager, all plans share the same set-up fees.
Important:
- Installation cost: for a limited time, standard installation is free of charge on all Voyager plans (usually worth $49). Simply put, if your household already has a phone line and/or ADSL connection, or the fibre access point is within 200 meters from your house, then you will not have to pay for installation.
- Modem cost: Voyager doesn’t include a modem in any plan. However, you have the option to rent a modem from Voyager for $10/month. Also, you can purchase a Huawei VoIP capable router from Voyager for $225. Whether you rent or buy the modem, a one time $14.95 postage fee applies.
Important:
- Non-standard installation fees may apply if your household requires a new ADSL, VDSL, or Fibre connection.
Voyager Broadband Customer Service and Outage Support
- Voyager's NZ-based phone helpdesk is available 7 days a week from 8 am - 10 pm via a free phone number (0 800 4 SPEED). Additionally, you have the option to submit a ticket to Voyager helpdesk or get in touch with the support team via their email: [email protected]

Choosing the Right Voyager Plan - ADSL/VDSL Broadband vs Fibre Broadband vs FibreMax Broadband Plans
Voyager's broadband plans share many key benefits, such as free setup and the ability to opt for an open term contract. That is why when choosing the best plan, it all comes down to your bandwidth and speed requirements.
1. Connection Speed: In general terms:
2. Flexibility:
3. Set-Up Charges:
4. Monthly Costs:
5. Additional perks: as for additional perks, Voyager currently does not offer any extra value, aside from the free set up fees.
1. Connection Speed: In general terms:
- Voyager’s ADSL/VDSL Broadband Plans Voyager ADSL (24/1 Mbps) and VDSL (70/10 Mbps) plans are good for couples and small families with simple needs such as web browsing, watching occasional YouTube videos, and light SD video streaming services.
- Voyager’s Fibre Broadband Plans In our opinion, the 100/20 Mbps speed offered by the Fibre Broadband Plan is ideal for large families who need enough bandwidth to enjoy multiple Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Disney+ screens at once without a sweat. Moreover, this plan may meet the demanding requirements of many online professionals that rely on a fast and stable internet connection.
- Voyager’s FibreMax Broadband Plan The 950/450 Mbps speed of this plan is designed for the most demanding use cases, such as streaming multiple screens at 4K, online trading, content creation, programming, and more. All in all, if you are looking for the highest bandwidth Voyager can offer, then this plan is a good alternative for you.
2. Flexibility:
- One of the things we liked the most about Voyager is its great flexibility. During the signing up process, you have the option of choosing between fixed or open term contracts seamlessly. Moreover, regardless of the type of contract, Voyager offers all its customers free set up. This makes Voyager an interesting alternative for people who do not feel comfortable signing a 12, 24, or 36-month contract since you can opt for an open-term if that suits you best.
3. Set-Up Charges:
- As mentioned above, another competitive advantage of Voyager is that it does not charge any standard installation fees. However, notice that you may have to pay non-standard setup fees if your house requires a special installation.
- Voyager does not offer a free modem in any of their plans, so you will either have to rent one directly from them ($10/month plus $14.95 shipping and handling), buy one ($225 for a Huawei router), or bring your own. No doubt this is an additional cost you will have to consider when making your decision.
4. Monthly Costs:
- Of the three plans offered by Voyager, we are inclined to choose the Fibre Broadband ($79/month) as the most cost-effective. This is assuming you are willing to contract the service for 12 months and bring your own modem.
- A good alternative for creative professionals could be the FibreMax Plan ($99/month) since it offers 10x the standard Fibre plan’s bandwidth.
5. Additional perks: as for additional perks, Voyager currently does not offer any extra value, aside from the free set up fees.
